Fall into the Season

The "unofficial" end to summer had barely passed us by. In fact, I was still enjoying the extended holiday weekend when I noticed the Pumpkin Spice Latte had made its return to Starbucks. Still preoccupied with the obscene temperatures here in Phoenix, I had failed to consider that fall is upon us- according to Starbucks, anyway.

Like many people, fall is my favorite season: warm colors, scents of cinnamon, notions of pumpkin picking and the overall sentiment of cozy. So as the NFL returns to its regular season and we look forward to Halloween and Thanksgiving, here are a few fall-related pieces of inspiration for your seasonal events and entertaining.

Celestial Pumpkins
Light up the season with these nontraditional Jack-O-Lanterns from MarthaStewart.com. Martha Stewart suggests creating designs on pumpkins of varying sizes using a drill and lighting from within using strands of twinkle lights. These add an elegant touch to any fall-themed event or simply to the outside of your home during these beautiful fall months.

Easy Fall Tablescape
Gourds, whether real or faux, are beautiful (and easy) additions to your fall decor. Throw them in a glass bowl or in this case, a tall cylinder-style vase. Add deep chocolate linens, accent flowers, votives and voila! you've got a tablescape masterpiece like this one from theknot.com.

Color is inspiration; see it in the world around you. Fall provides spectacular imagery (even if it comes from photography, as is the Phoenician frame of reference). While Pantone.com suggests a more modern take on fall colors (incorporating honeysuckle, duh!), I'm a big advocate of warm orange and red tones with touches of purple, olive and shimmers of gold.
